During my years in education, I authored two mindfulness picture books for children. These books depict school scenarios and provide practical mindfulness strategies to help young students, aged 6-9, navigate and manage their emotions. They feature beautiful illustrations by Milena Villa.
Sky the Skunk Is Not Invited to the Party
Sky the Skunk arrives home feeling angry, because his best friend, Honey the Bunny, didn’t invite him to his birthday party. On his journey Sky learns how stop and breathe to calm himself down, and when he does … he is in for a surprise. This is the first book in a series that explores different emotions children may experience, offering insights as to how they may self-regulate through mindful awareness.
Millie the Elephant forgets her lines
Millie the Elephant is given a task that should be easy for any Elephant, to memorize and recite a poem in front of her graduation class. Millie’s dreadful fear of public speaking makes her have the toughest time. Through a process of mindful awareness Millie learns how to face and overcome her fears.
